West Vancouver Mayor Mark Sager insists he isn’t looking for a fight with the provincial government. But he and his city council are also not backing down.

The mayor also predicts other municipal leaders will soon be rallying to his side.

The city doesn’t want to be at the front of an escalating confrontation with B.C. government, Sager told Postmedia News on Friday.

“But if we have to be, then we’re not afraid to be.”

At a meeting Monday, the West Van council unanimously voted to send an updated official community plan for the district to a public hearing next month. But that new plan is out of step with what the province wants.
