Singer-songwriter Nelly Furtado celebrated the 25th anniversary of her debut album by declaring she doesn’t anticipate taking the stage any time in “the foreseeable future.”
The 46-year-old Canadian popstar’s debut album, “Whoa, Nelly!,” produced the hit singles “I’m Like a Bird” and “Turn Off the Light,” and made her a Grammy Award winner in 2001 .
In an Instagram message posted early Friday morning, Furtado said she’s been fortunate to have reached a new generation of fans who’ve gotten to know her old music and couldn’t be more grateful.
“All this aside, I have decided to step away from performance for the foreseeable future and pursue some other creative and personal endeavours that I feel would better suit this next phase of my life,” she wrote.
