GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - A groundbreaking device is changing how doctors treat colorectal cancer by targeting tumors while sparing the rest of the body from chemotherapy side effects.

Hope Brooks says her cancer journey for stage four rectal cancer started with full-body chemotherapy. She says losing her hair felt like a loss of identity, and she wondered if there was a better option available.

“So literally Googling my life away and a couple of friends were doing the same thing,” Brooks said.

She found what’s called a hepatic artery infusion pump. The device administers chemotherapy to the liver, instead of the whole body. Her current provider didn’t offer it, so she switched to Prisma Health for treatment.
