RUMFORD, Maine — A 78-year-old Rumford man died Friday afternoon after his ATV rolled over while he was scouting for deer hunting season, according to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
Jeffrey Lang was operating a 2011 Yamaha 450 Grizzly on a steep hill along an old woods road near Wyman Hill Road around 12:30 p.m. when the ATV rolled, the department said.
Lang was thrown and trapped beneath the vehicle. His wife, who was nearby in the woods, ran to get help, according to the department. A person at a nearby residence heard them calling and called 911.
Rumford police and fire personnel, Med-Care Ambulance, and game wardens responded, but Lang was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene.
The steep and uneven terrain appears to be the primary factor in the crash. The
