Investigators sought Friday to track down a motorist involved in a late-night hit-and-run that left a pedestrian seriously injured this week in eastern San Diego County.

The westbound sedan struck the 63-year-old woman at Main and Orlando streets in El Cajon about 10 p.m. Thursday, according to police.

Following the crash, the motorist continued driving and left the area, Lt. Joe Crawford said. Paramedics took the victim to a hospital for treatment of severe injuries.

Investigators were able to identify the involved vehicle as Hyundai Sonata and located it abandoned near the site of the accident, according to the El Cajon Police Department. The driver, however, remained at large as of early Friday afternoon, Crawford said.
