CINCINNATI — Goaltender Ken Appleby stopped 35 of 36 shots in Cincinnati’s 3-1 win over the Komets on Friday in front of 4,488 fans at the Heritage Bank Center.

Komets goaltender Nathan Day had 11 saves. The Cyclones went 1 for 2 on the power play while Fort Wayne went 0 for 2.

The sides were even with eight shots on net in the first period, but it was the Cyclones who scored first with seven minutes and 32 seconds left in the frame. Forward Marko Sikic had a shot in front that got by Day to make it 1-0.

The Komets outshot the Cyclones 13-3 in the second period, including a 14:45 stint without a shot on net by the home team. A two-minute minor for Komets forward Zach Jordan changed that, putting Cincinnati on a power play that saw forward Justin Vaive end the long shooting drought with
