Host Lisa Garvin noted that the vote was close, at 4 to 3, indicating significant disagreement among the council itself about whether firearms are needed in the chambers. Proponents of the measure cited security concerns, with Garvin noting one of the council members saying knowledge that council is armed could deter potential assailants.
“I just don’t understand what they think the threat is,” said Chris Quinn. “What is it about their council meetings that they think is going to draw gun-wielding assailants?”
