Nongpoh, Oct 24: In order to increase safety for other drivers, police in Ri-Bhoi have banned parking along National Highway 6 between Jorabat and Byrnihat.

The district police are in the midst of a crackdown on unsafe practices along the highway in order to improve safety and reduce accidents.

Parking on the highway obstructs other vehicles, reduces visibility and this can lead to fatal accidents.

Speaking to reporters, Superintendent of Police VS Rathore issued a stern warning that all vehicles, particularly trucks, are now strictly prohibited from parking along the stretch from Byrnihat to Jorabat. Any vehicle found defying this order will be fined in accordance with legal provisions.
