RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina’s newly drawn congressional map crafted to give Republicans an edge is facing its first legal challenge as voters claim it is racially discriminatory, according to WNCN.

Voters in the 1st and 3rd districts, which were targeted in the redrawing, filed the challenge as part of an existing lawsuit against the 2023 map. They accuse lawmakers of discriminating against Black voters and say the new boundaries strip them of fair representation by virtually guaranteeing Republican victories.

Republican leaders have denied that race played a role in how the map was drawn.
