DULUTH — An injury to starting goaltender Ève Gascon put No. 4 Minnesota Duluth behind the eight-ball early in the second period of Friday’s WCHA series opener against third-ranked Minnesota.
The Gophers—with a two-goal lead already in hand— did not let up, tallying another goal in the second and the final marker in the third on their way to a 4-0 shutout victory on Friday at Amsoil Arena.
Despite the lopsided score, head coach Laura Schuler was generally pleased with how her team played, especially in the second period.
“It was a back-and-forth hockey game,” said Schuler. “I think we had our chances, especially in the second period… Unfortunately we didn’t capitalize on the chances we had, they capitalized on the chances they had, and sometimes that’s hockey.”
