Busting open a tie game halfway through the proceedings, the Greater Sudbury Cubs banged in five unanswered goals to skate away with a 7-2 win over the Powassan Voodoos in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Friday at the Powassan Sportsplex.
Converting on a two-man advantage midway through the first period, the Cubs’ Nolan Newton wired a short-side wrister over the glove of Voodoos’ netminder Cole Vreugdenhil from the right circle.
Notching another in the final moments of a frame, Kaedyn Long made it 2-0 Cubs when he pulled up after taking a pass from Caden Dubreuil on the left side and ripped it upstairs at 19:55.
Powassan cut the deficit in half early in the second stanza thanks to Cayden Kowal who neatly tipped in a left point shot by Ben Gisonni that got by Greater Sudbury
