: The United Naga Council (UNC) has declared a ‘Genna’—a traditional day of respect and celebration—on October 29 at Senapati in Manipur to honour NSCN-IM supremo Thuingaleng Muivah’s upcoming reception.
The UNC has directed that all educational institutions and shops across Naga-inhabited areas remain closed.
In Naga culture, ‘Genna’ refers to a customary restriction observed to ensure maximum community participation during national or culturally significant events. During this period, members of the Naga community traditionally refrain from routine activities to perform rituals and celebrate their collective identity.
