Kayla MacMillan advanced to the women’s final at the Home Hardware Canadian Curling Pre-Trials with a 6-4 semifinal win over Ashley Thevenot on Friday.
MacMillan’s Victoria-based squad took a 5-2 lead in the match with a steal of two in the seventh end and Thevenot, from Martensville, Sask., was unable to close the gap.
The result sets up a rematch between McMillan and top seed Selena Sturmay of Edmonton in a best-of-three final starting Saturday.
Sturmay beat McMillan 10-2 in their round-robin matchup Thursday.
Earlier, Jordon McDonald of Winnipeg advanced to the men’s final with a 5-4 win over Scott Howard of Navan, Ont.
McDonald beat Winnipeg’s Braden Calvert 10-5 in the opening match of a best-of-three final Friday night. McDonald outcurled Calvert 92 per cent to 80 per cent, and
