Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt on Thursday directed state agencies to review their reliance on federal funding and submit plans to protect core services as the ongoing federal government shutdown threatens to disrupt essential programs.

In a letter sent on Thursday, Stitt says he requires agency leaders to submit reports by next week identifying how they can “get back to basics,” streamline federal programs and ensure that limited resources reach the state’s most vulnerable residents.

“The Schumer Shutdown highlights the danger of Oklahoma’s reliance on Washington bureaucrats and their political games,” Stitt said. “We won’t stand by while politicians in D.C. jeopardize the well-being of our citizens. It’s time for Oklahoma to step up and lead where Washington fails.”
