Gone, reborn and through the roof. Ontario’s craft breweries are riding a roller coaster this fall.
The latest to exit is Northern Maverick, the multi-level 1,022 square metre (1,000-square-foot) brewpub on the ground floor of a condominium on Bathurst Street in Toronto. It could seat some 400 beer and food fans and featured a stunning ceiling of barrels. Along the way, they were brewing at least two beers sold at the LCBO.

Northern Maverick was packed on my only visit there in 2020 before the pandemic. One wonders if its closure was more about high rent in a big space and less about the beer it brewed.
Alas, after eight years in business, the property has had its locks changed for non-payment of rent. Its website notes Northern Maverick as only temporarily closed.
