A supermarket that just four months ago was working out as the most expensive for a basket of essentials is now cheaper than Aldi.
Back in June Asda was the dearest of the six main supermarkets for the eight basic grocery items including bread, butter, milk, beans, tea, coffee, chicken and mince.
But now the retailer is coming in cheaper than Aldi for the key items and second cheapest of them all.
It's largely down to the cost of its budget Just Essentials tea bags, which cost just 40p for a pack of 40, meaning 160 of them comes to £1.60 compared with Aldi's box of 160 costing £1.85.
