US President Donald Trump has cast fresh doubt on his relationship with Australian ambassador Kevin Rudd, saying he doesn’t “forget” when “bad things” are said about him.

The relationship between the pair was under scrutiny this week during a series of meetings at the White House where critical bilateral deals were made, and journalists asked Mr Trump about Mr Rudd’s previous comments about the president.

Before taking on the position of ambassador, Mr Rudd — a former Prime Minister — said Mr Trump was a “village idiot” and “the most destructive president in history”.

Earlier this week Mr Trump said “all is forgiven” after he was told Mr Rudd was sitting across the table from him, but on Saturday (Australian time) the President struck a different tune, indicating he would not forget.
