At least 18 people were killed after a Bengaluru-bound private bus from Hyderabad caught fire near Chinnatekur in Kurnool district on Friday (October 24) after colliding with a two-wheeler.
Some of the bodies were charred beyond recognition, prompting officials to call forensic teams to collect DNA samples of the deceased.
Earlier, the toll was estimated to be 20, however the Andhra government confirmed the deaths of 19 individuals, reported News18. About 27 others have survived the accident.
Initial reports said there were about 40 people in the bus when the motorcycle collided with it and got dragged underneath with its fuel cap open, triggering the blaze.
