Joe Pride praised the poise of Adam Hyeronimus after he timed the run of Attica to perfection in a thrilling finish to the Spring Champion Stakes to give the Warwick Farm trainer a first group 1-winning colt at Randwick on Saturday.
Hyeronimus, who scored a front-running, track-record victory in the Golden Rose on Beiwacht for Godolphin last month, gave the global racing powerhouse another group 1-winning colt as Attica made up several lengths late to beat Shangri La Boy by a short neck.
It also gave Pride a second group 1 of the carnival after Ceolwulf’s King Charles III Stakes win last week at Randwick.
Attica won the Dulcify Stakes (1600m) last start but faced a tough task in the 2000m group 1 for three-year-olds from gate 11.
