A man whom police killed in an encounter on Saturday morning in Assam’s Kokrajhar was believed to have Maoist links and had several cases in Jharkhand.
According to police, he was involved in multiple railway bomb blasts in Nadanguri, Kokrajhar district.
The deceased has been identified as Ipil Murmu alias Rohit Murmu (40) and had many cases in Jharkhand, although he hailed from Kokrajhar district of Assam.
Speaking to reporters, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kokrajhar Pushparaj Singh said that Murmu had carried out a railway track explosion in Jharkhand in October last year before fleeing to Assam. In Jharkhand, he was known as Rohit Murmu, while in Assam, he used the name Ipil Murmu.
