TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Tropical Storm Melissa is expected to rapidly intensify into a hurricane on Saturday, the National Hurricane Center said.
The storm is currently 165 miles southeast of Kingston, Jamaica, and around 240 miles southwest of Port Au Prince, Haiti. It's moving very slowly northwest at just three miles per hour.
With maximum sustained winds of 70 mph, Melissa has a little more strengthening to do before reaching Category 1 status at 74 mph.
Jamaica is under a hurricane warning, while Haiti and the Dominican Republic are under a hurricane watch. NHC said Cuba may be added to that list later on Saturday.
