TRAVERSE CITY — After Russia launched its all-out invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, millions of displaced Ukrainians were left looking for a safe place to turn.
Tens of thousands – the majority of them women and children – took a lifeline offered by the U.S. government for temporary sanctuary in the United States. And dozens of those families found safe haven in the Traverse City area, home to one of Michigan’s largest Ukrainian communities.
