Phillipsburg Police Chief Anthony Goodell is pushing to add four more officers to the department by the end of 2027.

“I would never ask for extra officers unless I absolutely needed it,” Goodell told a group of reporters this past week.

The department recently welcomed its second female officer, who will specialize in covering the South Main Street corridor. The officer is joining the force from the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office on a part-time basis. The police department has also placed a notice for lateral transfers into the department.

According to Goodell, the Phillipsburg Police Department currently has 41 officers — roughly the same number it had in 1989.
