LOS ANGELES, California — Marcie Free, the acclaimed rock-metal singer celebrated for her strong vocals and decades-long influence in melodic rock, has died at 71.
Her passing was confirmed Friday by longtime friend and drummer Jay Schellen . A cause of death has not been publicly shared.
“Marcie was a marvel to behold. A voice that had no limits and no equal, a truly singular talent and one of the most open and beautiful souls I have ever known,” Schellen wrote. “I’m gutted and can’t say much more.”
According to XS Rock , Free first gained prominence under the name Mark Free as the lead singer for King Kobra, appearing on their mid-1980s albums “Ready to Strike” and “Thrill of a Lifetime.” She later went on to front the groups “Signal” and “Unruly Child,” earning recognition for her
