LOGAN – The average audience response to a static, academic play reading typically ranges from polite acknowledgement to reserved applause.

The small audience for An Evening of Short Plays performed at Utah State University on Oct. 24 instead gave the student directors and performers a well-deserved spontaneous standing ovation.

The highlight of the Department of Theatre Arts event was the hilarious comedy An Infinite Number of Monkeys by playwright Dan West, directed by Brighton McDonald.

The comedy is an extended gag that broke with play reading conventions about the old improbable theorem that an infinite number of monkeys randomly hitting typewriter keys for an infinite amount of time would eventually produce the Complete Works of Shakespeare or any other work of literature.
