HAMPTON — A fire at a Northampton assisted living facility early Saturday morning led to more than 70 people being evacuated.
Fire and rescue crews were called to the Golden Years Assisted Living Facility, on Hunt Club Boulevard, just before 5 a.m. and found smoke in the building. They immediately began evacuating residents to the Northampton Community Center.
The fire was extinguished by 5:10 a.m. No fire-related injuries were reported, but two residents were transported to Sentara Careplex Hospital for care.
The fire was confined to a single room at the end of a residential wing, and the automatic sprinkler system extinguished it. Authorities have deemed half the building safe to inhabit, but the Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue said reoccupation will not occur until the fire alarm
