They're two of Thornaby's best known and best loved pubs. Whether it's 2019 or more than a decade ago, that hasn't changed. On Bader Avenue, The Griffin still pulls in the punters and locals, just like it did in 2007 when some of these pictures were taken.

It gets its name from the circular red, white & blue emblem used on the sides of RAF aircraft and is one of Thornaby's lasting tributes to the town's former Aerodrome.
Between 1930 and 1958 Thornaby Aerodrome hosted a wide range of aeroplanes and aircrews, not only from the region but from as far afield as Australia and Canada.
