COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ironton’s football season is over without a chance to defend its state championship in the Division V playoffs.
The Ohio High School Athletic Association announced Saturday morning it has removed the school from the postseason because of several recruiting violations during a seven-year period.
In addition to a postseason ban, Ironton has been placed on three years probation and received a $7,500 fine. Some members of Ironton’s coaching staff will be barred from participating at any member school in the state for next year’s playoffs.
