Portland Winterhawks 16-year-old rookie goalie Blake Clark recorded a victory Friday in his first WHL start, making 30 stops in a 6-5 win over the Vancouver Giants at the Langley Events Centre.

Here’s betting he’s had a little added netminding instruction along the way. He’s the son of longtime Vancouver Canucks goalie coach Ian Clark.

Sixteen-year-old goalies in the WHL are a rarity. Clark is just one of two 2009-born netminders in the league currently, along with Leif Oaten of the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

The Giants haven’t had a full-time 16-year-old goalie since Trent Miner joined the club midway through the 2017-18 season.
