BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — The government shutdown is now the second-longest in American history. Senator John Hoeven delivered a fiery speech on the Senate floor on Thursday, October 23.
"Despite the mounting consequences, our colleagues across the aisle continue to block a clean, non-partisan continuing resolution," said Senator Hoeven. "One that would simply keep the government open and allow us to continue our work on the appropriations process."
The speech comes as shutdown tensions reach a fever pitch. Approximately 1.4 million Federal employees missed their first full paycheck on Thursday, October 24, and as many as 42 million Americans could lose Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
