JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — On Oct. 22 during a training exercise in Carter County, AEMT Fred Kemp died in the line of duty, officials said.

According to a social media post by the Washington County/Johnson City EMS, Kemp was an Advanced EMT and Rescue Technician with 28 years of experience.

Reportedly Kemp was instructing the training exercise when he had "a fall from a significant height," EMS leadership said in a press conference on Thursday.

The spokesperson said the event was a result of a scheduled, high-angle rescue training and that the incident is being reviewed by "internal and external process following a line of duty death."

WBIR reached out to Tennessee OSHA to confirm whether they are investigating but has not received confirmation.
