La Paz celebrated its 477th anniversary on Friday with a fashion festival honoring the style of Bolivia’s Indigenous Andean women, known as the chola paceña.
The women, recognized for their colorful skirts, are an emblem of the country’s identity, and the event aimed to highlight and celebrate their traditional attire.
More than 100 models walked the runway wearing designs from five prominent Bolivian designers.
The Indigenous models showcased vibrant blankets, bowler hats, skirts, and jewelry, moving with the elegance and playful spirit that define this cultural icon of the Andes.
After decades of discrimination, Bolivia’s Indigenous women have in recent years embraced their heritage with pride, using events like this to assert their visibility and celebrate their cultural legacy.
