STEVENS COUNTY, Mont. – After receiving a grant for $100,000, Stevens County Fire District #2 found and purchased a brush engine truck to join its fleet.

The grant came from the Washington Department of Natural Resources and was intended to buy a “new to us” brush engine, said District #2.

District #2 said it had to search the nation for a brush truck, which are scarce because of the high fire volume. They eventually found one with the help of a contracted dealer in Salt Lake City.

The truck, a 2016 F550 4×4, operates identically to the other two trucks owned by District #2 and is a 19-year upgrade to the previous truck.

The truck still needs some work done before it can be used to serve Fruitland Valley residents, the district said.
