The Algonquin Barons have carved out quite a little dynasty in NDA (Nipissing District Athletics) senior football. Their 22-7 win over the West Ferris Trojans on Friday night was their second straight title and fourth in five years.
The only defeat the Barons suffered this year was to the Trojans in the season opener and that was with their star quarterback Dayne Meyer not playing due to injury.
The Barons literally ground out the win with Matt Berube rushing for over 100 yards and a touchdown. Mathieu Desbiens stole the show with over a combined 100 yards on offence, a touchdown, a sack causing a fumble on defence, another tackle for a loss and five total tackles.
Meyer threw a touchdown pass to Owen Shillington. Nicolas Corbeil had the Trojan touchdown.
