COLUMBIA, S.C. − Alabama football couldn't have looked more beatable on Saturday in a 29-22 comeback win over South Carolina. But the Crimson Tide , in the same gutty performance, might've shown why the SEC won't beat it at all.

Alabama (7-1, 5-0 SEC) enters a much-needed idle week now, its second of the season, having escaped what looked like a certain upset in the fourth quarter. For the Crimson Tide, the outlook looked its bleakest when South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers scampered 10 yards for a touchdown with 10:00 left for a 22-14 lead. Alabama's offense had looked disjointed for three-plus quarters to that point, and the home crowd was electric. Students had begun to inch forward in anticipation of storming the field.
