The 79-year-old Maui bicyclist who was critically injured Wednesday after being hit by a pickup truck has died, police said today.
The man, identified as Richard Holland of Kihei, “succumbed to his injuries and died” about 4 p.m. Friday at Maui Memorial Medical Center, according to the Maui Police Department.
Earlier this week, police said, the man was riding “an electric-assisted bicycle” Wednesday morning in Kihei when he was struck by a pickup truck.
The collision occurred about 7:22 a.m. when a man driving a white 2024 Ford F-150 turned left from Kanani Road onto Auhana Road and hit the bicyclist who was thrown onto the road, police said. Police said he was not wearing a helmet.
Paramedics took him to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition.
