SUMTER, S.C. — This weekend marks one year since two young boys were killed while walking along Britton Road in Sumter. On Saturday, family members and community members gathered to honor their memory and call for safer streets.
Fifteen-year-old Marvin Butler and 12-year-old Basir Wells were hit and killed by a car last year while walking along the road. Their deaths continue to weigh heavily on the community, and their families say they are still searching for justice.
"They killed our boys," said one family member. "Our babies have been gone, it's been a year, I haven’t gotten anything from nobody, I cry every day and every night, and I tell these kids it's going to be, we want justice and what Sumter County to do their job."
