Birmingham Seaholm head coach Nick Shaheen shared his feeling after a dual victory last month that his team’s singles lineup was deeper than the previous year when it was runner-up at the Division 2 state finals.
The feeling was validated in Midland on Thursday when the Maples won two singles flights and had one player make a final in another, providing them the points to win the program’s first state championship.
Seaholm had previously shared or taken second place outright a handful of occasions, including both the past two years, but captured 31 points to win Thursday, beating out Byron Center (26), along with Midland Dow and Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern, the two of which had combined to win the past three D2 titles.
