SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - People from across the Michiana community dropped off their drugs at collection sites as part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

The goal of the initiative is to raise awareness about the potential for medication misuse.

WNDU 16 News Now went to one of the drop off locations at Clay Fire Station 21. We spoke with Molly Kelly of Upper Room Recovery Community on why the day is so important.

“Prescription drugs are how a lot of people start their addiction,” Kelly said. “The biggest message I would tell people is keep them safe, especially with little kids around, and get rid of the ones you don’t want.”
