COLUMBIA, S.C. — Before Ty Simpson spoke, before the Alabama football quarterback reflected on the Crimson Tide's 29-22 road win against South Carolina at Williams-Brice Stadium, he told himself and those around them to take a deep breath.

“Happy,” Simpson said when asked how he was feeling. “It’s hard to win in the SEC. It’s hard to win on the road. It’s such a great, resilient win by the guys, man. Just super proud of the team. Just kept fighting, you know what I mean?”

Alabama fought. The Crimson Tide turned a lost lead late in the third quarter, a deficit that grew to eight points in the fourth into a seven-point road victory. It didn’t matter that South Carolina was Alabama’s first game against an unranked opponent since September 13.
