Outsourcing giant Capita is being sued by more than 600 Scottish victims whose personal information was hacked in a giant cyber attack in March 2023, the Sunday Mail has learned. ‌

The firm was fined £14million by the UK’s data watchdog this month after home addresses and passport images began to circulate on the dark web. ‌

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) said Capita failed to ensure the security of processing of personal data, leaving it at “significant risk”, and did not quarantine the device the attacker was able to exploit its systems with for 58 hours. ‌

The ICO said financial data had been stolen, and in some cases details of criminal records.
