New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) is set to launch the first phase of the nationwide special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls next week. The exercise will initially cover around 10 to 15 states and Union territories such as the states of Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
The pan-Indian revision will focus on states where assembly elections are scheduled in early 2026, including Assam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and West Bengal. States where local body elections are currently underway or have been excluded from the first phase as the election machinery in these regions is engaged in ongoing poll duties. SIR in such states will be conducted in subsequent phases, according to reports.
