OTISFIELD, Maine (WABI) - Authorities say a woman is recovering in the hospital after she was shot in the hand outside of a home in Otisfield Saturday.

The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to the home on Bell Hill Road around 7 p.m. for a report of a woman shot and injured.

The victim, a 28-year-old woman, who has not been identified, was treated at the scene and then taken to a nearby hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities say the suspect, identified as John Pottle Jr., 38, of Otisfield, had fired an AR 15 style rifle recklessly in the vicinity of the woman subsequently shooting and injuring her.

Pottle was arrested and the gun was seized.

He was taken to Oxford County Jail.
