New Delhi: Sophie Devine was in tears when New Zealand’s national anthem was played during the Women’s ODI World Cup match against England on Sunday, October 26. Playing the final ODI match of her career, emotions got the better of the long-time captain as the WhiteFerns took the field for one last time in the tournament.
Devine announced her retirement decision before the start of the ODI World Cup and was one of the most complete players in the history of women’s cricket. She gave an emotional interview before the match and revealed that she had already cried her heart out heading into the match, but failed to hold her tears when the national anthems were played at the ACA VCA Stadium in Vizag.
