COLUMBIA — There wasn’t any joy flowing out of Williams-Brice Stadium on Oct. 25. Letting the fourth-ranked team in America off the hook has that kind of effect.

It’s particularly excruciating when you do it the way South Carolina did: By consistently overcoming its own mistakes, only to have another self-inflicted miscue ultimately do the Gamecocks in for good.
