Supercars veteran Chaz Mostert has turbocharged his quest for a maiden championship title after doubling-dipping at the Gold Coast 500 to open the new finals series with consecutive victories.
Racing on his adopted home track, the 33-year-old won Saturday’s 250km event, pipping series leader Broc Feeney, and he proved it was no fluke by backing up to take the chequered flag again on Sunday.
Mostert was delighted to make amends for what he described as a “heartbreaking” result on the Gold Coast last year.
“I still can’t quite believe it,” Mostert said.
“Broc had amazing pace out there ... I didn’t quite have as much speed as Broc.
“But obviously we did everything we did and executed perfectly as a team, which we didn’t quite do the best job at last year.
