The story has gone viral in both Canada and the United States. Two Canadian snowbirds were left speechless after being charged $60 for fingerprints and photographs upon entry into the United States.

Adding to the dilemma, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed that charge, citing "standard procedures."

Not only was the procedure alarming, but for travelers Jacquie and Steve Ree of Ladysmith, B.C., they also faced other dilemmas, such as a wait of over an hour due to the inspection of their RV at the Peace Arch Border between Surrey, B.C., and Blaine, Washington.

“I'm watching them open all our hatches, and we're thinking, ‘Oh my god.' They went through our whole RV," the couple told CBC News in a statement.
