The Election Commission will announce a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) across the country on Monday. The commission will provide this information in a press conference in the evening. In the first phase, SIR will be conducted in 10 to 15 states. These will be the states where assembly elections are due in the next one year. Assembly elections are due in Assam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and West Bengal in 2026.
An Election Commission official had stated that SIR will not be conducted yet in states where local body elections are due. The reason for this is that staff at the lower level will be busy with those elections. They will not be able to spare time for SIR. SIR will be conducted in these states after the elections.
