A 18-year-old woman from Southwest Ranches is dead after a fatal crash in Lake County on Saturday night, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

At approximately 9:44 p.m., a 2024 Hino tow truck, driven by a 53-year-old man from Ocala, was traveling southbound on the Florida’s Turnpike north of mile marker 291 partially in the outside lane and outside shoulder, FHP said. The 18-year-old, driving a 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E, was also traveling southbound in the outside lane.

FHP said the tow truck was merging from the outside shoulder to the outside lane in the direct path of the Mustang. As a result, the front of the Mustang struck the rear of the tow truck.

The woman was pronounced dead on-scene, FHP said. The Ocala man was not transported and remained on scene.
