KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — The county still plans to build a Gibbs pedestrian bridge despite delays.

On Monday, the Knox County Commission passed resolutions relating to the project, including a license agreement with the Tennessee Department of Transportation. Jim Snowden, the senior director of Engineering and Public Works for Knox County, called this the last paperwork hurdle.

The bridge would cross Tazewell Pike between Gibbs High School on one side and Gibbs Elementary and Gibbs Middle Schools on the other. The county hopes to have the project open for bidding late 2025 with construction starting in March of 2026, said Snowden.
